If you have any other health concerns, make sure to share these with your practitioner as well. Please arrive to your appointment free of makeup.

You may take arnica tablets orally 3 tablets per day, 3 times a day for 3 days prior to your appointment

Dermal filler aftercare is simple and does not generally interfere with the daily routines of patients.

First 24 hours: Avoid sudden movements in the enhanced area. It is also advisable to use a cold pack as needed to reduce swelling and redness at the injection site. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, repeat as needed. You may also use topical arnica gel as it aids in recovery.

You may take Tylenol 650mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed.

Avoid over exposure to heat and sunlight as they might increase swelling and bruising at the injection site. This includes hot yoga or any type of exercise involving heat, saunas, tanning beds, steam rooms, etc.

Swelling, redness, and/or bruising is common, though this should subside in a few days, healing time varies from person to person, however, some may experience longer than others.

***** UNLIKE HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS, SCULPTRA IS NOT REVERSIBLE *****

Sculptra is made of Poly-L-Lactic acid is a synthetic gel made with lactic acid but currently does not have reversible antidote. If a nodule forms, we can soften it up using steroid, 5-FU and saline or it may need to be excised surgically as a last resort.

ALL Autoimmune diseases are contraindicated. Please inform your provider. If you choose to move forward, a consent will need to be signed that we are not held liable. You are at higher risk for nodule formation.

TEMPORARY SIDE EFFECTS

Hematoma, edema, ecchymosis, discomfort, inflammation, and erythema. Subcutaneous papules and nodules were often confined to the injection site, asymptomatic and non-visible, occurring days to months after injections.

SEMIPERMANENT ADVERSE EFFECT

  • RARE NODULE OR GRANULOMA FORMATION: this occurs when Sculptra is not massaged 5 times a day, for 5 days straight, for 5 mins at a time after the procedure was done. Therefore, this will concentrate the product and overstimulate collagen production incurring in nodule formation. This is greatly decreased when the client massages, which spreads the fluid into a thin layer.

Nodule formation occurs more commonly in autoimmune disease. Most of the nodules result after 24 months.

*** Nodule formation is very rare since we hyper dilute Sculptra making it diluted and not concentrated.

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS

  • VASCULAR OCCLUSION, INFARCTION OF EMBOLIC PHENOMENA: This occurs when Sculptra is implanted in the blood vessel. Our providers decrease this chance by performing ” 12 seconds aspiration” of the needle prior to injections to check for blood flashback in the hub of the needle.

*** Vascular Occlusion is very rare since we hyper dilute Sculptra making it diluted and not concentrated. ***

  • Massage: “Rule of 5’s”. Massage treated areas with firm circular motion for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Massage is a MUST after Sculptra and helps prevent “lumps/bumps’ after treatment.

  • MAY wear makeup 24 hours after the injection sites have subsided.
  • MAY take Tylenol for soreness.
  • MAY apply face products gently.
  • TEMPORARY BRUISING: May last for 14 days. Use 3 sublingual arnica tablets, 3 times a day, for 1 day and bruising cream to help.
  • TEMPORARY HEMATOMA: may last for 14 days. Ice and compression can help. Laser may help in the right skin type; need to contact provider.
  • HEMOSIDERIN STAINING: may last for 1 month. This is due to subdermal blood staining. May need IPL laser to improve faster if skin type is appropriate. Need to contact the provider.
  • CHRONIC BRUISE: this is due to the Tyndall Effect, where fillers have migrated to the surface and it reflects a “blue tint” color. You will need to contact the provider for reversal using hyaluronidase. This is at no cost to you.
  • TEMPORARY SWELLING: moderate swelling can be expected in treatment areas. If greater than 2 weeks, will need to contact the provider for possible steroid to reduce swelling.
  • TEMPORARY TENDERNESS: this may occur for 2 weeks. If longer than 2 weeks or infection forms, please contact the provider for evaluation and possibly will need steroids and antibiotics.
  • TEMPORARY FIRMNESS: at the treatment site for the first few days after treatment. Over time, the area/s will soften and settle as fillers integrate into the tissue. If firmness last longer than 1 month, will need to contact the provider for possible interventions.
  • TEMPORARY NUMBING: at the lidocaine/epinephrine injection sites. This can last for 3 days to 3 weeks.
